Orange Park (FL) Oakleaf Class of 2025 safety Hylton Stubbs added new scholarship offers from Tennessee and Virginia Tech after taking unofficial visits to each respective campus.
Stubbs, who holds seven early scholarship offers, visited Virginia Tech on Wednesday.
It was his first time on campus in Blacksburg.
“It was nice. It was a great environment. I loved it up there. My dad was stationed in Virginia so I knew about it a little bit but it was my first time on campus and the coaches showed me around. It was really nice. I enjoyed it.”
Stubbs’ father was stationed in Norfolk (VA) as a member of the US Navy.
During the visit to campus, Stubbs was the only high school recruit on campus and was able to get plenty of time with the coaching staff. He spent a lot of time with Pierson Prioleau.
“He was just showing me a lot of different things about being a safety and how to carry myself,” he said. “He actually won a Super Bowl with the Saints.”
He was offered by Brent Pry with the entire staff around him.
“That one, it means a lot to me because they were all in the room and we were sitting down and having a great conversation, and he just said it. It was mind-blowing.”
During the campus visit, Stubbs also got a chance to see a few players that he was already familiar with.
“I saw [Keshawn King] up there and I saw Chamarri Connerhe was from a school up the street for me,” Stubbs said.
“He was telling me how I would love it at Virginia Tech and how it’s a great environment and how the change wouldn’t be a big change but it is a nice place to play at.”
Stubbs’ older brother played with King before enrolling at Florida State.
All-in-all, the visit to Blacksburg was a success for the rising sophomore.
“There were a lot of things that stood out the most to me but it was how Coach Pry coached one of my favorite players that is in the league right now, Micah Parsonsthat’s a dude I really look up to so it was crazy how he was telling me all these things about how he coached so many different dudes that are like me and how it would be a nice fit for me.”
