Business incubator EG Woode has opened its first small business center on Chicago’s South Side to house four black-owned businesses.
On Thursday, the organization opened its doors at 1122 W. 63rd St. in Englewood. held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new property, which is home to Paul’s Barbershop, consignment shop Marie|Wesley, Momentum Coffee and design company Beehive.
“E.G. Wood has helped me turn my dreams into reality. They have been a parent’s guide to growing my business while serving the Englewood community.” Marie|Wesley’s owner Nannette Tucker said in a news release. “Now that I have a retail space to call home, I’m working hard to really see my business grow.”
Founded in 2017, EG Woode is a firm that provides business development, real estate and marketing strategies for black business owners.
The opening of the EG Woode location is part of Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s Invest South/West initiative aimed at developing Chicago’s South and West Sides by supporting small businesses and other community development projects.
Deon Lucas, architect and partner at EG Woode, said: “We’re trying to make things happen and help people in communities that need entrepreneurs the most and have opportunities to do well in their communities as entrepreneurs.
