7 highlights from New York Fashion Week

Welcome to Fashion Month! New York Fashion Week came and went with a bang. The week-long event featured hundreds of memorable runway shows, from blockbuster names to indie designers we should all know.

Runway shows from the Brooklyn Museum to Spring Studios, the Piers on South Street Seaport and more. This fashion week is memorable because the runway shows of the February edition were mostly canceled due to Omicron differences and the fashion crowd brought it.

Here are seven highlights from NYFW.

Rebirth

Couture brand Renasio put on an inspiring show of dreamy gowns and dresses by Carlos Reyes that swept the audience away. Titled “The Legend of Eris and the Resilient Unicorn,” the surrealist symbolism in the clothes tells the story of a little girl and we see her dream.

For their fall show, the brand presents stylish jackets and biker jackets as part of their new collection. The brand is anti-fast fashion, and has been worn by Jane Widlin of the Go Go’s, Captain Sensible of the Damned and Jake Haute of the Dead Boys.

Dream run

The Runway of Dreams Foundation promotes inclusion and change for people with disabilities in the fashion industry. Their latest fashion show showcased clothing and footwear for everyone. Over 60 models with disabilities and backgrounds at Target, Kohl’s, JC Penney, Steve Madden and more use simple zippers and magnets to close clothing to make it easy to change into disability fashion items with the latest in fashion. Bagalini

Bagalini, the female-founded travel bag company, introduced its Fall 2022 collection at New York Fashion Week. Korean concept

Concept Korea has been an official program at NYFW for 12 years going strong. This season, Seoul-based brands BESFXXK, Cahiers, and UL:KIN showcased their spring/summer 2023 collections—the booth brands worn by TXT and actress Kim Tae-ri respectively. BESFXXK showcased pinstripe fabrics with khaki trench coats, while their Victorian-style windbreakers stole the show with their long Versailles-esque train. Cahiers brought the dreamy pastels of long, long dresses perfect for wearing in the Spanish countryside of Toledo. UL:Kin features fishnets designed by Seong Dong Lee as a key element for the new collection, which is inspired by magnet fishing, with olive-dyed dresses, zippers and mesh alluding to the underwater world.

Blondes

Blonds returned to NYFW with a new collection inspired by the summer season. The sun-kissed collection featured glittering golds, yellows and oranges in retro 1970s inspired by Nikita Dragon, Gigi Gorgeous, Cassie and Saucy Santana and more.

According to the designers, their summer in New York City was filled with “escapism, glamour, and nightlife,” and it’s all about “extravagant style and memories of those warm nights.” [fashion designers] Philip and David bonded over a shared love of dance music. Disco Inferno and 14N1

Naughty By Nature’s Vin Rock walked the runway for the show, co-presented by Disco Inferno, a brand founded by A$AP Ilz, and streetwear brand DripOnSociety’s 14N1. The brand is known for dressing hip hop legends like DJ Whoo Kid, Ayleks, Bobby Nice, Jay Gwaupo, Lil Migo and more.

“This brand was born out of the clash of fashion in Dante’s Inferno and the Nine Circles of Hell from Parkside Housing Development, The Bronx, where I’m from, which is the birthplace and mecca of hip-hop,” Ilz said in a statement. . “I also wanted to shine a light on how my generation is killing each other with gun violence, and with this collection, I hope to lighten things up by putting on a fashion show right here in the community.”
