Zelenskyy says there are rooms with ‘electrical torture devices’ in Kharkiv

“Torture chambers” and mass graves were found in the country’s Kharkiv region after Russian troops withdrew, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Saturday.

The discovery was made by Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States, Oksana Markarova, in an interview on Sunday. ABC News “This week“Large-scale war crimes” are occurring as a result of the Russian invasion that began in February.

“More than 10 torture chambers were found in the liberated areas of the Kharkiv region, in various towns and cities,” Zelensky said in a video conference late Saturday, according to CNN. “When the attackers fled, they also left behind torture devices.”

Zelensky added that death chambers and “electrical torture devices” were found at the Kozacha Lopan railway station.

The settlement of Kozacha Lopan, about a mile from the Russian border, was recaptured by Ukrainian forces on September 11, AP reported.

“There is clear evidence of torture, humiliation of people,” Zelensky said in a statement Friday. “Furthermore, there is evidence that Russian soldiers not far from this site shot the burial for fun.”

Efforts are being made to identify the remains of around 450 civilians in a mass grave in the town of Izium on the Donets River in Kharkiv region, the Kyiv Independent reported.

According to Reuters, some bodies were found with ropes around their necks and their hands tied.

Similar graves were found in Bucha in March, where the bodies of 116 people were found after the city was liberated from Russian occupation.
