Richmond, Va. – 14Th The annual RVA Fall Fashion Week kicks off Wednesday. The events highlight local community members and businesses while raising money to fight breast cancer.

“We’ve been preparing for this for the last six to seven months,” explained Jimmy Budd, executive producer of RVA Fashion Week. “I think all the adrenaline is hitting the team, so we’re excited to get in here.”

The week is packed with events showcasing Richmond’s fashion and beauty industries.

“I think the first 10 years of building this was trying to get Richmond to understand that there’s a big fashion market here, and you can build your business here,” Budd said. “You don’t have to go anywhere else.”

On Wednesday night, an opening party will be held at Brun on North Lombardy Street for all those involved in organizing Fashion Week, and on Thursday, people are invited to attend a workshop on entrepreneurship in the fashion and beauty industry. That panel is being held at the Lane on North 17th Street from 6 pm to 9 pm.

Friday night starts at 2Th Annual RVA Sneaker Fest, where you’re encouraged to wear your best clothes and ditch the tennis shoes. That will be held on both Friday and Saturday at Tang and Biscuits.

“I was sitting there thinking how big the sneaker culture is here,” Budd said. “And I wanted to focus on fashion week to dial in more of the accessory side and then tie it in with our streetwear fashion shows. So Sneaker Fest came along, and we were able to support a lot of local boutiques. Here in Richmond.”

This year’s Sneaker Fest will help support Girls for Change, a nonprofit youth development organization dedicated to empowering black girls in Central Virginia. A few of the 11th graders in the program will display prototype sneakers at the event.

“The vision of helping black girls in the community, especially through youth, to give them opportunities that they might not otherwise have, is life-changing,” Budd said.

Sunday’s RVAFW Finals Fashion Show will be held from 4:30 pm to 9 pm at the Rhythm Hall of the Dominion Energy Center. A portion of ticket sales will be donated to Action Against Breast Cancer.

RVAFW’s sponsorship and community partner and breast cancer survivor Nikki Fiveish is an organization she says is close to her heart.

“There are women and men who go through this very difficult time in their lives, and I know personally, when I was diagnosed, I started primary care not a few years before I was diagnosed,” Fiveash explained. “And if he hadn’t been here, if he hadn’t gotten the funding that he did, I probably wouldn’t be sitting here today.”
