Colorado Springs, Colo. – The second Mountain West Mental Health Summit is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 8 in conjunction with the league’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) meeting in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The MW Mental Health Summit is a four-hour event that provides hands-on and hands-on programming for student-athletes, coaches, staff and administrators.

Beyond the Athlete: Intersectionality, Mental Health, and Performance in Collegiate Sport Systems
- Presenters: Julia Cowtra and Alexander Cushing (USOPC) 8:15-9:30 am MT
- There are many challenges in college athletics, one of which is achieving peak performance in dynamic environments and unpredictable situations. Mental health and intersectional identities impact the performance of student-athletes, and the multidisciplinary systems of college athletics have a lasting impact on the outcomes of the sport experience. This dialogue-oriented system is athlete-centered and is producing favorable results for all stakeholders.
Resilience, student-athlete safety best practices, fundamentals of mindfulness and mindfulness practices

Identifying, understanding and responding to mental health needs
- Presenter: Katie Ville 10:45am – 12:15pm MT
- A crash course in what mental health crises can look like, how to respond, reduce risk and increase confidence in accessing one’s support throughout the continuum of mental health needs.
