Saint Anthony – According to recent health inspection reports, a popular coffee place needs a deep cleaning, a convenience store had a rat problem, and a Mexican restaurant still had work to do after a second inspection in less than six months.
Fajita Taco Place #3
Fajita Taco Place #3, located in the 1800 block of Thompson Place, scored an 81 following its most recent inspection. It’s a point better than you did in April when you first appeared behind the kitchen door. Five violations were repeated from the previous inspection.
Cooked meat is left in a pan on the stove and heated to 71 degrees when it should be 135 or higher. The meat was taken to a cold container.
Meanwhile, the raw meat was touching the cooked meat in the cold room.
A cook was seen touching tacos with his bare hands and urged staff to remove cobwebs from toilets.
According to the inspector, six violations were corrected during the inspection.
Jim’s coffee shop
Jim’s Coffee Shop in the 8200 block of Marbah was in need of a serious cleaning. There were many dead souls in the business. The inspector said in his report that the facility needed a thorough cleaning to remove the dead bugs.
There was grease build-up around equipment, food debris in the walk-in cooler, and more food debris in the walk-in cooler.
An employee was seen handling English muffins ready to be eaten with their bare hands, and roast beef had to be thrown out as it was past its expiry date.
The inspector gave the business an 82 and ordered it to be checked again.
Quick-o stop
The Rapid-O Stop at 3300 Clark Ave. got an 84 despite the rodent problem.
A soup box full of rats and broken packaging was thrown out.
Rat droppings were found on shelves and further evidence of pests in the business.
The ice machine was in such bad shape that they were told to stop selling bagged ice until the rust was removed from the inside of the ice maker.
The building also needs maintenance. They were ordered to do a re-examination and were given until the end of November to do the repairs.
When KSAT investigative reporter Tim Gerber stopped by this week to check out the business, the employee said she couldn’t answer questions and Gerber and the photographer left.
Moments later, the employee followed Gerber outside and dumped her soft drink on the KSAT news vehicle. She was upset that she was going to go on television.
So much for a coke and a smile.
