Tarran County wants to get the word out that it still has millions of dollars in the pot to help small businesses affected by Covid-19.
“We want to help you as much as we can. We want you to stay in Tarrant County. We want you to succeed in Tarrant County. We want to get the word out. And we want you to apply,” Tarrant County said. Economic Development Manager Megan South talks about a new grant program.
County commissioners have allocated $25 million from the 2021 America’s Savings Plan Act to the Small Business Workforce Acquisition Grant Program.
The application period opened on July 11. So far, nearly 3,000 small businesses have applied for grants of up to $27,500. The application deadline is August 31. The application information is here.
“We know that small businesses like ours in the county are struggling to recover from this. Right now, they’re having a very difficult time finding the money to keep their workforce, to train employees,” South said.
To qualify, businesses must have 50 or fewer employees during the first quarter of 2020. The business must be located in Tarrant County and includes those within the Fort Worth city limits.
Eligible industries include:
• Tourism, travel and hospitality (travel services, hotels and motels, event and
Recreation areas, sports facilities, convention and visitor offices, outdoor plazas
and markets).
• Non-profit service providers
• Arts and culture (theatre, dance, music, artists)
• Food service (restaurants, caterers, bars, lounges, pubs, mobile food trucks, etc.)
Construction and Landscaping (Planning and Services)
• Gym/fitness
• Health care (acute, primary and rehabilitation centers)
• Mortuary services
• Production
• Personal care services (hair, skin and nail salons, hairdressers, beauticians, spas,
(massage, tattoo parlors, etc.)
• Retail stores that do not sell essential household items.
