Lubbock, Texas – The Texas Tech volleyball team travels to South Bend, Ind. this weekend for the Irish Invitational at Notre Dame. First, the Red Raiders play the Irish on Friday, August 26 at 6 p.m., followed by the Milwaukee Panthers the following day at 11 a.m.
Tech is having its best season in 20 years, with the team earning its first NCAA Championship bid since 2001 at the Madison, Wisconsin Regional.Tech has posted a 17-13 overall record and seven conference wins. The Red Raiders return 11 players from last year’s team, including seven seniors or fifth-year student-athletes.
Tech was led offensively by veterans last season. Kenna SauerWho ranks first on the team in kills (364), aces (24) and points (424.5). Fifth year seniors Carrington Jones And KJ Adams Both led the team with a .358 hitting percentage and 485 digs, respectively.
Eight new arrivals are joining the squad this season, with two transfers – Jack St. Cyn (South Florida) and Lexi Collins (Wyoming) – Also six talented freshmen Brian Williams, Currie Marrusak, Page Muni, Dylan Hoskins, Ellie Baumer And Grace Betke.
Looking for opponents
Texas Tech faces Notre Dame on Friday, marking the first time in program history that the Red Raiders have played the Irish. Last year, Notre Dame went 13-15 overall and 10-8 in conference play.
Tech is facing Milwaukee for just the second time in program history, the last meeting being a 3-0 victory over the Red Raiders on September 5, 1981. The Panthers have a 22-9 overall record and were 16-2 in conference play last season. They return junior midfielder Ari Miller, who led the team with 411 kills (3.57 rpg).
