Showing the good, the bad and the ugly, ‘View of the Week’ It’s a regular series to wrap up the most talked about clothes of the past seven days.

Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman captured the internet’s attention this week with a new shoot in Perfect magazine.

Kidman, who turns 55 this summer, flaunts her impossibly sculpted triceps on the magazine’s cover — red hair tumbling over one shoulder and a section clearly cut across her chin. Not a power suit or black turtleneck in sight: Kidman is wearing pieces from fashion brand Diesel’s Fall-Winter 2022 collection, which debuted at Milan Fashion Week this February — a highly praised array of Y2K-inspired trucker hats, denim trench coats. And a boozy belted-dress Kidman wears.

The second cover features Kidman in a pair of oversized patent thigh-high boots — similar to those seen on Rihanna last week — from Y/Project, a label run by Belgian designer Glenn Martens. And the 20-page fashion editorial photographs Kidman in a number of Internet-breaking looks, including an embarrassingly nude print dress and a pair of denim Diesel ensembles.

All this to celebrate the new appreciation bestowed upon her by the magazine. Named an “absolute icon” — one of 23 new awards in an attempt to highlight industry talent across the board — Kidman has been praised for her relentless curiosity and versatility.

“I make my decisions the way a teenager would,” she said in an interview with Zee. “Not playing the consequences. I want to do it, I try. It has its ups and downs. It makes the job I’m in really stressful.”

This daring outfit gave Kidman a place in high fashion. In February, she appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair’s latest “Hollywood Issue” in the iconic spring-summer 2022 Miu Miu micro dress — a piece so iconic that the Instagram account now diligently chronicles every time it’s worn by an influencer or celebrity. . (There were 111 posts in six months.) The look became more flexible because Kidman “begged” stylist Kate Grand – also the creative director of Perfect Cast – to wear the chino dress that was awarded, the actor later said. Director Baz Luhrmann in an interview for Vogue Australia.

During Paris Haute Couture Week in July, Kidman joined Bella Hadid, Kim Kardashian and Dua Lipa on the runway to model for Balenciaga.

But the actor has long been one of fashion’s most savvy risk-takers. In the year In 1997, Kidman wore a Chartreuse Dior gown to the Oscars. Designed by John Galliano, the look created such a stir that it now boasts its own Wikipedia page. The color of the dress was heavily criticized by comedian and red carpet critic Joan Rivers (who told Kidman that the color was “hiding her” and caused a squeal when the actor walked past), with some arguing that it helped create a cautious red carpet culture. A dress that lasts today. “John[Galiano]did it for me, and I love it,” Kidman told Women’s Wear Daily at the event. “I don’t know if people will accept it. But if they don’t, well, maybe they should.”

Deeply tied to narrow standards of beauty, fashion is often considered a youth game – expectations of what to wear increase the older you get. But Kidman says for her, having fun takes priority over getting fit. “Like I always say, ‘I do what I want to do,'” she told Perfect. “That’s why I click with photographers, because I’m not here to imprint myself on you, but rather for you to remind yourself of me and so we can grow together. Let’s play!”
