Washington August 24, 2022 – The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a public health warning for poultry and meat products that are being recalled by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) due to an unknown allergen in corn starch, specifically milk. FSIS is issuing this public health warning to inform consumers that these products should not be eaten. This situation is currently improving, which means that more products can be added. Please keep checking back for updates.
While this public health warning focuses on sick chicken and pork products, FSIS believes that additional meat and poultry products may be affected by FDA-regulated corn starch. A list of products subject to public health warnings is available over here And the labels are available over here. The tamales were shipped to warehouses, distributors and retail locations in Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin. However, if other products are added, more states may be affected.
FSIS and FDA are working together to coordinate on reconstituted corn starch and to determine the amount of corn starch distributed to other facilities.
There are no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to the consumption of these products. Anyone who is concerned about an illness should contact a health care provider.
FSIS is concerned that some products may be in consumers’ homes. Consumers who have purchased these products are advised not to use them. These products must be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.
