The holiday weekend ends with some ACC action that sends us into Week 2 of the college football season. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and fourth-ranked Clemson Tigers will take the field Monday to share the national spotlight in college football’s only FBS game. Clemson is a three-point favorite.
What happened in Death Valley a season ago was very different from what the Tigers begged to see. Dabo Swinney’s team lost three games and missed the ACC for the first time since the 2014 season. And although the 10-3 record isn’t up to the standards the program has set in recent years, the sky isn’t falling. The defense should be tight, yet again, and the hope is that DJ Ugalele and the offense are a little better in the junior quarterback’s second season as a full-time starter.
In the year In 2021, the Yellow Jackets were exactly what they had been for the past few years – a three-win team with little success. Labor Day might be the perfect time for Georgia Tech to start moving in the right direction, even if naysayers expect this to be a lopsided victory for Clemson. Third-year quarterback Jeff Sims must be like a video game out there.
