Look for online outlets

Many brands now sell excess stock through their own digital outlets. For example, Rixo, known for its patterned dresses, has an archive section on its site where you can shop last season’s styles at up to 50% off.

The Outlet sells previous season styles not sold on Net-a-Porter, and is where the Guardian’s fashion and lifestyle editor Morwenna Ferrier says you can find the “absolute steal” of designer clothes. She says: “Victoria Beckham’s profits are declining and many of her pieces are up there. I got a beautiful blue silk shirt for five RRP [recommended retail price]He said.

High street shoe brands Schuh and Office sell discounted shoes at end-of-line, pre-show or in a few slips, including children’s school shoes, at Schuh Imperfects and Office Office.

Bookmark the items you like, then wait for them to go on sale

“I always buy a designer winter coat,” says Monikh Dale, stylist and founder of Monikh.com.

“I notice when it comes out, and if possible I’ll ‘choose’ the item online or in the marketplace. When the sale starts in two seasons, I’m hoping for at least 50% off. It’s a gamble if you really like it because it doesn’t happen all the time, but it feels great when it does.

You can use a price tracking app, while Google Shopping lets you track price drops.

If you need something more urgently, leave it in your online basket at least overnight. You’ll often find that you’ve been sent an email by a brand offering you a discount code to complete your purchase.

Sign up for the retailers newsletter

You should have the power of will not to overspend with the regular marketing emails you get, but subscribers are often notified of a brand’s sale, often 24 hours in advance, which means they get the best deals and the biggest discounts. Size selection.

You almost always get a signup discount bonus for your first purchase – maybe 10% or 15%.

First look for second hand

If you have a specific item in mind, you can always see if you can get it in hand before paying full or sale price.

He says it’s a good idea for an online fashion retailer to start with eBay and Vestiaire Collective.

“Some products sell for more on eBay, and vice versa. Slightly older, high-street labels like Toast, Cos or Arquette are worth less because people find luxury on the latter. You can find designer bargains on eBay for less.”

A tip for finding the best deals: Search on the weekend, when boring sellers list things on Sunday night. Check for typos. “I once found a great Paul Smith item on eBay because someone had misspelled the name,” Ferrier said.

“Try not to buy from overseas as there are many allegations of fraud, plus it’s very difficult to spot false information, and if you’re a beginner, start with a vestry when they check you out.

“I also go into jewelery shops – Liberty, Selfridges – make a note of the new or lesser-known offers and then search on eBay. I just found a dress at Farm Rio for £30. It was probably £300 new.

Shop your favorite stylists or influencers hands-down

Many stylists and fashion influencers sell barely worn clothes online. You can even find Harry Styles’ archive pieces from stylist Harry Lambert, who is listing them on Depop.

Alex Stedman of Frugality recycles her old clothes on eBay for charity – mainly items that don’t fit after giving birth.

“It’s good to know that your favorite influencers are offering the same thing. There are so many great sites to buy second hand these days. [such as] Vintage and Depop, and I love shopping in more stylish stores in London like Shelter in King’s Cross and Crisis in Finsbury Park.

“I love the fun of car boot sales – the prices are much lower than wine and charity shops, and it’s a real social occasion. Not all start at five o’clock in the morning. My favorite Battersea boot is a gold mine for fashion and home.

Rent for special events

If you’re after something special for an event, wedding, or big work presentation, you’ll save a lot on rentals, and you’ll wear something you usually can’t afford. Stedman says: “You can also ‘follow’ and ‘like’ tenants who are similar in style and size to yourself, which helps if you’re unsure of how an item will look or fit.

Try sites like Hurr, My Wardrobe HQ and By Rotation.
