Businesses in Arlington and across North Texas are bracing for a busy few days on the schedule this weekend with the NFL season opener and other sporting events.
The Texas Rangers return to Globe Life Field on Friday, September 9 for a five-game stand against the Toronto Blue Jays and Oakland Athletics, while the Dallas Cowboys host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday evening.
In Texas Live! Chief Operating Officer Jim Watry said the building will serve as a “fan festival.”
“Whether it’s a big game in the stadium or a big watch party or anything that draws groups of fans together,” Watry said. “We always wake up to a concert at Globe Life Field or a football game at Choctaw Stadium.”
Texas Live! It holds 11,000 people on a live stage next to a large screen television that seats more than 2,000.
“This being our fourth year … a lot of people come to the game, but a lot of people drive to watch the game whether they have tickets or not,” Watry said. “I can’t wait to show off the building, see the fans and rock at the weekend.”
The Dallas Cowboys remain StubHub’s best-selling NFL team for the 6th time based on total ticket sales. According to StubHub, the upcoming Sunday night game is seeing nearly double the ticket demand of the Sept. 8 Bills-Rams game. Data from StubHub also shows that demand for Cowboys has doubled since 2021. To the last season.
Dallas Sports Commission Executive Director Monica Paul said the Dallas Cowboys brand puts North Texas on the world stage.
“What happens on the field is very, very important, but it’s also the business behind it. The charity that the organization does for the whole community.” Paul said.
With Sunday’s game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Paul said fans traveling to the game will stay in various cities in North Texas.
“It’s good for restaurants and additional tax revenue for all the cities involved, from Arlington to Dallas to Fort Worth,” she said. “The importance of the economic impact and what goes into that from the Cowboys games and the professional teams is driving the hotel impact. The more people that come in, even if it comes to the opposing team … I think it’s important.”
The game is scheduled for 7:20 pm CT on NBC.
