LISBON – With more than 40 years in the restaurant business, Fred Andrews, owner of Italo Pizza in Lisbon, knows a good employee when he sees one. Andrews Italo’s most valuable employee is David Brabant.

A client of the Columbiana County Board of Developmental Disabilities (CCBD), Brabant’s main job at Italo’s is washing dishes, but he’s willing to help out wherever he’s needed.

“David is a hard worker.” Andrews mentioned. “He is a perfect example of a disabled person who can work. David likes to work. Like many people with disabilities, David wants to be part of an integrated work team.

Italo is further recognized by Reach 4 for employing people with disabilities. Reach 4 Plus is an employment program of the Developmental Disabilities Board of Columbiana County.

Brabant, 41, has been involved with Reach 4 More since the program began five years ago.

“We offer a wide range of potential employees for a business owner to choose from.” said Anthony. “Our goal is to provide a successful partnership for our clients and business owners. We want both the employee and the employer to have a positive experience.”

“We certainly encourage someone like David, who is an honest person.” Andrews said. “We appreciate having an employee who is visible, willing to work and has a positive attitude.”

Andrews admires David’s positive attitude and willingness to work.

People like David want to work and are good at their job. They help develop teamwork in employees.” Italo’s owner said. “Everyone is different. We all have different strengths and weaknesses.

Owning and running a business in these economic times can be very trying not only for the owner but also for their employees.

“David is a bright spot in the day. No matter what kind of day you’re having, he has the ability to make you laugh.” said Andrews. “Working as a team is essential for a business to be successful. David is a very important member of our team here at Italo.

“Paul does a great job of building relationships with local business owners and determining their needs.” Devon said of Anthony’s efforts in the Reach 4 More program. “We have employees who can be successful in many types of businesses.
