LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Nevada, looking to expand its tourism-based economy, hopes to become a tech hub, a place where entrepreneurs and tech startups can come and build their businesses.

As the pandemic spread, Las Vegas launched a campaign aimed at attracting those who could work remotely.

Billboards targeting tech workers reportedly live in San Francisco at Summerlin in Las Vegas. Some have left that movement out of Silicon Valley and headed for Vegas Valley.

“One of the things about the pandemic is it’s changed how people can work. Certainly with technology, the ability to build a new company from home is a new adventure for me,” said Eric Velasquez Frenkil. Frenkiel has seen his share of success in the tech world.

“I was an early engineer at Meta before I decided to quit. I left everything behind to start a small startup called Single Store. That company is now getting ready to go public. I ran that from two guys and a dog to 125 people,” explains Frenkill. After 12 years at Bay. Area, Frenkiel moved at the height of the epidemic.

“I think there’s been a diaspora all over the United States, from Austin to Miami. I think Las Vegas is one of the best-kept secrets,” Frenkiel argued.

After living in San Francisco, Frankel started his family in Henderson, the second safest city in America.

“Too many people are leaving, crime is out of control,” Frenkill argued.

From the comfort of his Henderson home in the Vegas Valley, Frenkiel launched a new company to transform the money-trafficking business on a global scale.

“Currently, it’s about six percent on average to move funds around the world. “We brought that down to zero because we collect revenue from merchants, not our customers,” Frenkill said.

New company Pomelo is partnering with MasterCard to eliminate the need for wire transfers instead of using credit cards to send money to families around the world.

“Pomelo is a new way to send money abroad using the power of credit instead of cash,” says Frenkil.

Frenkill came up with the idea while visiting his wife’s family in the Philippines.

“Why can’t I just leave a card with my family instead of sending money through Western Union every month?” Frenkill asked. In one of those eureka moments when I asked myself, I started getting sick.

Because the service didn’t exist, Frankiel created it, and announced it to the public this week.

This new approach to helping people in the US send money to families abroad is starting first in the Philippines. The card service works directly in India and Mexico.
