Despite being based outside the UK’s fashion hub, Leicester-based retailer Business Fashion has carved out a niche for itself in the country’s fashion sphere. Amazingly located in the heart of England, making it easily accessible to anyone living in the UK, TBF has recently undergone a major change in vision and function to achieve its mission of supporting artists and creatives. The redesign defines a purposeful, quality design and craftsmanship that reflects the products it carries, from the latest offerings to fine grain items and unique furniture.
Divided into sections for different experiences, Business Fashion explores artistic areas that hinge on material selection and a unique design perspective.
The broad 91-foot-deep lead section was marked by Daniel Arsham. The eroded head of Lucille, 2019, made of hydro stone, plaster, broken glass and quartz crystal. The piece comes from the collaboration of the artist’s Louvre Arsham Studio “Paris 3020”, which has given the museum exclusive access to important molds, to create large-scale crystallized sculptures of well-known busts, friezes and sculptures from the late antiquity.
The piece is raised on a marble slab with a symmetrical terrazzo floor border. The black marble is accented with gold and beige mirrors and the Cypriot olive wood is finished with stainless steel railings that pay tribute to the owners’ roots. Finally, the room is finished with Dryad and Gufram furniture and custom lighting by design-oriented Italian manufacturer Artimid, which continues throughout the store.
Entering the next room are French Oak Versailles Park and polished concrete floors. A Carrara bookcase in marble with two pillars holding a marble medusa head can be seen behind. Outside of the ancient Greek influence, the first is Andy Warhol. Mother and child From 1986, Untitled Edition with Keith Haring (1987), and a piece by British artist Mr. Jago. Furnishings include a Julep sofa from Tacchini, Gufram Boca sofa by Studio 65, Dryade Aphrodite side table, Cassina LC4 Chaise Longue, Pierre Generet committee arm chairs, large lamps from Anglopoise, chaise longue by Cassina Charlotte Periand and Dryade Nemo chairs by Fabio November. The final room features Japanese inspiration with Canadian cedar wood contrasted with black resin floors and walls. Located on the third floor, the space includes Gufram Snarkitecture, broken glass, hidden storage units and cactus from Gufram and Toogood Rolypoly chairs.
Business fashion has also decorated the shop with a coffee shop named “Cafeneo in Business Fashion”. The polished concrete floor is paired with three travertine figures hand-carved by a sculptor in the region of Italy where Michelangelo lived and inherited from the same family who worked there for centuries. Other bodies include Daniel Arsham Zeus Tropical Caves, 2021, vintage Pierre Generet chairs and Devialet Phantom speakers at the Opéra de Paris. A Brazilian marble counter offers Italian gelato, tea from Mariage Frères and specialty coffee from Alpress.
