New York Fashion Week – the first group shows for spring 2023 – has come to an end, which means… well, a lot of things. Lower Manhattan traffic is about to get much less congested; Over the next several weeks, European fashionistas will be jumping on the bandwagon. And it’s time to reflect on the runway beauty moments we won’t soon forget.
While the backstage experience has changed dramatically over the past decade, hair, makeup and nail teams are still working to pull off an inspired, trend-setting, inspired look.
For spring 2023, the hair trend prevalent on the runways was wet, wet and slicked back styles. Just a callback from last season…Don’t Dry Your Hair, Sopping Threads has been seen at various times by Elena Velez, Fe Noel, Marnie and Proenza Schouler, among others.
Buns – neat chignons, high 80s extensions or extreme, messy topknots – were also very popular on the spring runways in New York, a limited version was seen on Naeem Khan, Altuzarra, Sergio Hudson, Christian Siriano, Laquan Smith and Jason models. Wu. Other favorite hair moments were funky fun like the alien-inspired cone accessory and surprising floral accents by Sandi Liang.

As for make-up, colorful and metallic eye shadow were the standout trends, with Naeem Khan models sporting green, Patbo wearing copper, Dion Lee in a grey-silver balance treatment (by the ever-creative Isaiah Franch) and dolls and dolls in a two-tone look. Glitter accents have been seen at Tory Burch (with glittery eye makeup!) and Peter Doe (especially with gorgeous brushes).
And then there were the nail looks to give you plenty of inspiration for your next salon visit: at Susan Alexandra, we saw glittery nail-like acrylics at No Sesso, chunky accents at Lure, and colorful square nails. Fe Noel.
