50th win at Virginia Tech: Nov. 27, 2016 at No. 7 Indiana (2-1 OT)
Staying with the theme of the 2016 NCAA Tournament, it’s impossible to make this list without mentioning the Hokies’ second appearance in the Elite Eight in Bloomington in the Sweet Sixteen over No. 7 seed Indiana.
In what could be the biggest win of the Brizendin era, Tech was forced to travel to one of college football’s premier powers in what seemed like a tough task for any opponent. According to the results, Marquan and Orange are not afraid.
Taking a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute, Brendan Moyers seemed to take control of the game early on. But the Hosiers came back.
With 14 minutes left in the game, Indiana tied the ball one-on-one to send the game into overtime.
That’s when Forrest White came in. The junior midfielder punched home a shot from 18 yards out in the 97th minute to seal the win for Tech and a place in the Elite Eight.
The win also happened to be Brizendin’s 50th. But the victory was even greater than that for many more reasons.
