Jamaican social media star Chinee K and Chinese fashion behemoth Shin have renewed their collaboration.
The statement was made by the urban clothing retailer as part of information regarding the Variety Girl Fall campaign in which Chinee K has been selected to participate.
Chini K, whose real name is Kerry-Ann Collins, said she was thrilled to work with the fast fashion company once again when discussing the collaboration.
“We’ve been working together since 2017 and it’s been a great experience,” she said.
The social media influencer added, “In 2017, working with influencers was a relatively new phenomenon, and they were one of the first brands to really embrace this style of marketing. So to me, they were visionaries in that way, and we continued to build a relationship that continues to this day, and I’m happy for that.
Chinni K revealed that she fell in love with the retailer while still in college and that they were personal supporters outside of their partnership.
“In the beginning, I used to shop a lot at Shein because they had great clothes at affordable prices. I think that’s the point. You know, I was in college at the time or had just graduated college, so I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on expensive clothes,” she said.
She continued, “Because they’ve lowered their price point, you can literally buy an entire set (top and bottom) and just spruce it up with jewelry, and boom, you’ve got a beautiful outfit. Therefore, the fact that their clothes are affordable and beautiful is a big increase for the budget girls. Most of the things in my closet are from Sheen. Also, contrary to some comments, the quality is not bad,” he said.
Chini-K points out that Shein’s brand has been given to Jamaican entrepreneurs, many of whom sell the brand, as a form of support outside of personal fashion.
“Aside from the influencers, there are a lot of people here who sell Sheen and make a living, so Sheen is a whole ecosystem,” she said.
“There’s a party every weekend and if you need something fast, you run a local grocer. So now Shin is more popular than ever in Jamaica, and his popularity will continue to grow.
Shin is an e-commerce retailer founded in 2012 and has dominated the highly competitive fashion market.
According to sources, the so-called “she-in” startup has overtaken Amazon as the most downloaded shopping app in the United States.
