Victoria invests in new hub to support digital health innovators

The Victorian Government has invested A$2.4 million ($1.6 million) to establish a hub to support digital health innovators.

Victoria’s Connected Health Innovation and Business Center connects up to 500 local companies each year with healthcare professionals, investors and other innovators to support innovation to fast-track their new digital health products.

It is funded by the state’s Australian MedTech Manufacturing Hub and Biotechnology Fund and is being delivered by digital health accelerator ANDHealth.


A program to support clinical entrepreneurs launched in WA

A new program to support clinical entrepreneurs has been launched in Western Australia.

According to a media release, the Australian Clinical Entrepreneur Program equips healthcare professionals with the skills to translate their ideas into products and businesses that improve patient care.

The 12-month program is being run by the University of Western Australia and the University of Melbourne in partnership with healthcare industry partners.

This new entrepreneurship program is supported by funding from the Future of Health Research and Innovation Fund and the federal government’s Future of Medical Research Fund.


New Zealand to establish clinical, consumer council for information and digital

Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand is establishing a National Clinical and Consumer Health Design Council for Information and Digital.

As a News reportThe council advises on clinical data and digital projects being developed across the country.

There are about 470 clinical systems projects across New Zealand, said Stuart Bloomfield, interim head of data and digital at Te Whatu Ora. He emphasized the importance of listening to and involving clinical staff and consumers in the design and development of digital tools.


Ambulance Victoria My Emergency Doctor will be transferred to a secondary triage service.

Telehealth provider My Emergency Doctor is working with the Tasmanian Government to support secondary triage services by providing an alternative healthcare pathway for those seeking an intimate emergency care consultation.

Since launching the service in February last year, Ambulance Tasmania has seen an increase in demand from people calling Triple Zero but not requiring an emergency ambulance response.

With this latest partnership, calls from patients who do not require emergency care will be transferred directly from the MED to an emergency specialist for review. If necessary, they will be given medical advice, prescriptions and emergency assistance.


$1.5m to install new CT scanner in Torres Strait

The Queensland Government announced a $US2.14 million ($1.45 million) project to install a new CT scanner at Thursday Island Hospital early next year.

“We know how important it is for First Nations communities to have access to health care at home as much as possible. Once this machine is installed, people living in the Torres Strait and Northern Peninsula areas will no longer need to travel to Cairns for a CT scan,” Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said in a statement.

The said CT scanner will be installed in the Medical Imaging Department, which is part of the ongoing redevelopment of the hospital. Health Minister and Ambulance Services Minister Yvette D’Eze said they are currently procuring a scanner unit and a consulting team.


Elderly care vacancies on Eldernet

Current vacancy numbers for residential care beds are now available via the Eldernet Group website.

Te Tu Ora Taranaki is partnering with older people’s information service providers to help free up clerical jobs for the region’s health professionals by providing the free service.

In addition to bed vacancies, the Eldernet website now displays the offerings of each boarding house and short-stay homes.
