Participants in the Defense Innovation Unit’s Harmonious Rook program will demonstrate their commercial geospatial intelligence and reconnaissance warfare capabilities in upcoming domestic and international military exercises.
Harmonious Rock is a prototype project that aims to provide situational awareness of intentional disruptions of the Global Navigation Satellite System that threaten users’ positioning, navigation and timing capabilities worldwide.
The National Air and Space Intelligence Center and the National Space Intelligence Center and other defense and civilian agencies are participating in the program. The initiative leverages data, machine learning analytics, visualization and contextual capabilities from multiple vendors and non-governmental organizations.
“Instead of designing, building and deploying hardware tailored to gather operations for reconnaissance warfare, we are accessing currently available commercial data and analytics to address the PNT’s situational awareness needs,” said Air Force Lt. Col. Nicholas Stepp, program manager at Ideal Rock.
The prototype companies will support the Southeast Asia Cooperation and Training Exercise later in August and the US Army’s 1st Armored Division Command Post Exercise at the National Training Center in September.
