East Rutherford, NJ – In the year Coming off an impressive 10-hole pace score in the $500,000 Hambletonian Oaks on Aug. 6, Fashion Schooner knocked off some cobwebs at the Meadowlands on Friday night (Sept. 2), easily taking the $30,000 3-year-old. Open filly trot.

Unlike Hambo Day, when the Jim Campbell trainee was sent out the door at odds of 6-1, this time Wallner’s daughter of Broadway Schooner was bet 1-5 by the punters, and she let it pass easily. Wire 2-1/4 lengths in front of Lilbitalexis. Yanaba was third.
Fashion Schooner sat in the early going three-hole, left the rail before the third-eighth furlong, took the lead at the halfway mark, then took off for home, clocking a 1:52.1 mile with driver Tim Tetrick at the controls.
His fullness was about a month away, but Campbell was confident heading into Friday’s race.
“I went with her for five weeks off before the July 1 Reynolds and she ran a good race (a close second). She’s such an athletic filly, so it doesn’t take much to keep her in shape.”
Campbell’s star pupil could be the favorite for next week’s $300,000 New Jersey Classic finals, the event’s first appearance this year.
“With only eight fillies coming in, there were no eliminations tonight, so I wanted to use this as preparation,” Campbell said. “I didn’t want to love her anywhere else. I just wanted to take advantage of this contest. The New Jersey Classic is a great program. It gives us a chance to race these 2 and 3 year olds for good money. And we don’t have to travel, so that’s a bonus. The program provides a great incentive to purchase breeding horses in New Jersey.
What’s in store for the fashion schooner?
“We’ll wait and see how things go next week,” said Campbell, the third trainer to sweep both the Oaks and Hambletonian (along with cool Papa Bell) on the same day. “Then maybe the (Oct. 9) Kentucky Philly Futurity. After next week, (October 29th) I think we’ll only have one or two more to go before the breeding crown begins.
Owned by Fashion Farm, the fashionable schooner took her lifetime stat to 6 wins in just 12 starts, good for earnings of $483,462. She returned $2.40 to win.
King’s Hill Report: A winner of nine of 10 races in 2021, Nigga Hill earned $904,557 and won the Triple Diamond, Kindergarten and Breeders’ Crowns in a season she qualified before the betting card, going wire-to-wire with Dexter Dunn in 1:52.1. to drive.
The 2-year-old, winner of the Dan Patch Award a year ago, is looking to expand her 2022 campaign. In her only pari-mutuel debut this year, the daughter of Always B Miki-Road Bet finished eighth as the 1-5 public choice in the Pennsylvania Sr. Stakes event at Harrah’s Philadelphia on May 29.
“She just didn’t hold the track that day,” trainer Chris Ryder said. “Then she missed some time because she had some problems with her leg. But we are very happy with her filter. She was good and strong. We will qualify again next week and hope to compete overnight at the Meadowlands before heading to the Red Mile for the Bluegrass on October 1st.
A little more: Tetrick finished the night with three hits against the Driver Colony. Campbell had a training double.
