FARGO, ND (Valley News Live) – Flu season is upon us and according to Sanford Health in Grand Forks, more and more people are signing up to get the flu shot.
“We want our patients to be the healthiest they can be,” said Sanford Health nurse practitioner Hilary Determan. “Getting the flu shot will prevent them from getting seriously ill.”
Vaccines have become a hot bed of debate in recent years, with some worried that living viruses are being used in the process.
“I like to spend time with patients and teach them that the flu shot does not give you the flu. That’s a very common misconception.” said Determan.
Determan has seen firsthand how the flu can turn deadly. She is reminding everyone that vaccination is not only about protecting yourself, but also about protecting others.
“Vaccination is very important for society, for your family. Do it for a neighbor’s child who can’t be vaccinated yet. said Determan.
