“Three things come into training,” says Shannon. Missy Nova is a choreographer and brings HIIT and hip hop together. She recommends finding something you enjoy that involves exercise. You can start by walking or dancing in your kitchen. Maybe try a little online test. “Once you identify what makes you feel good and what makes you feel better, it’s easier to build on that,” says Missy.

“People often stop when they can’t fulfill their own needs,” says Stella K. The artist plays basketball, runs, dances and combines HIIT and rave like Shannon. She recommends starting small. “Research the sport you want to try. Find out what techniques and exercises are available. Be curious!” Stella K finds it helpful to make small plans each day because they are easy to implement. “If you go to the gym, start walking on the treadmill for five minutes. At some point, you’ll start walking. And so your exercise will improve.”

Fitness means respecting your body

For Shannon, the first step starts in the mind. She sees exercise as an expression of self-love. “Fitness is a way to celebrate the beautiful body you were born with,” says the trainer. Exercise can help you feel as strong as possible. Forget scales, diets and ideals of beauty. Put your own safety first: that’s the goal.

“Always remember why? Your goals are important to you,” advises Frankie Dee.

He is also a hip hop dancer and world champion HIIT professional. The engine that keeps you going says why. If you focus on that, you will be less likely to compare yourself to others. “There’s no one like you, that’s your superpower!” Remember that physical and mental health means different things to everyone, so your fitness is completely personal. Do you feel insecure when you run or at the gym because you think everyone is watching you? Consider that others are usually too self-absorbed to watch your workout.

Find a community that is good for your growth

If you focus too much on your personal goals, you tend to forget one thing: that (the right) community supports your growth even more. So ignore the ones that aren’t good for your overall fitness development.
