Liz Truss’s journey from Liberal Democrat speechwriter to Conservative Prime Minister has had many interesting moments, including her stunning outfits.
Whether standing on stage, heading to 10 Downing Street or hitting the campaign trail, the latest UK leader has made a name for herself with a number of stunning ensembles.
Ms Truss beat Rishi Sunak in the Tory leadership by 81,326 votes to 60,399 and promised a “bold plan” to cut taxes and boost the economy.
As she prepares to deliver her victory speech, her purple dress matches the purple chairs in the venue, but perhaps more so than former US First Lady Michelle Obama’s prim dress and US Vice President Kamala Harris’s purple dress at Joe Biden’s inauguration. 2021.

Meanwhile, New York Times chief fashion critic Vanessa Friedman pointed to Mr. Sunak’s high-end dressing versus the high-street nature of Miss Truss’ clothing as a key battleground in the race to the top.
“What the candidates wear is as much about the differences between the two as what they say on the campaign trail,” Ms. Friedman wrote.
Outspoken comments about her fashion choices are nothing new for the South West Norfolk MP.
Mrs Truss’ outfits during her time as a maid, including colorful blazers, tartan culottes and fluorescent dresses, have been scrutinized in the press and online.
Her style has taken many shapes and forms on her various trips to cabinet meetings – from a formal dress and blazer combination when she was appointed environment secretary in July 2014, to a black coat with a matching hood and boots in 2016.
One of her most striking outfits – including a coat, shirt, trousers and matching bag – was a bright pink suit she wore to a cabinet meeting in September 2019.
Mrs Truss wouldn’t be the first female Prime Minister to draw attention to her authority – Theresa May has been linked with a series of leopard prints, which she wore as a heel.
However, the intensity of the spotlight can take some getting used to, one such example was during the Tory leadership contest when Ms Truss’ choice of outfit went viral.
When the former environment secretary appeared at Channel 4’s Tory leadership debate in July, Twitter users were quick to point out that she was wearing an outfit similar to what Margaret Thatcher wore on her 1979 election campaign – a black jacket and white shirt with a big bow.
Ms Truss hit out at comparisons to Mrs Thatcher, who died in 2013, calling them disappointing.
She told GB News: “It’s very disappointing when female politicians are always compared to Margaret Thatcher and male politicians are compared to Ted Heath.
