Franciscan Health on Wednesday recognized Horizon Bank for its contribution to support the Franciscan Health Foundation’s Center of Hope program.
“We are grateful for everything Horizon has done to help us in our mission to serve some of the most vulnerable in our community,” said Sister Petra Nielsen, vice president of mission integration at Franciscan Health Michigan City. “We are grateful to have you as one of our community partners.”
The Hope Center program provides a safe environment for survivors of violence, sexual abuse and trauma. Indiana ranks second in the nation in cases of child abuse, making the services provided at the Hope Center an important part of Franciscan Health’s compassion for the community.
Funding for the Franciscan Health Michigan City Center of Hope helps support the emotional, physical, and spiritual healing of those affected by sexual and physical violence and abuse.
“Horizon Bank is very philanthropic and we always want to give back to the communities in which we operate,” said Horizon Bank Regional President Steve Kring. “I can’t imagine what the patients at the Center of Hope are going through mentally and physically. Finding a place to go is very important.
Sexual Assault Nurse Investigators (SANE) serve at the Center of Hope 24 hours a day, seven days a week to care for patients, eliminating the need to refer patients for further testing. The nurses are specially trained in cultural sensitivity, trauma identification, evidence preservation, forensic photography, forensic documentation, court testimony, and the acute and long-term effects of sexual assault.
“I am grateful for the support of businesses in our area and the leadership that Steve and his colleagues provide,” said Dean Mazzoni, president and CEO of Franciscan Health Michigan City. We couldn’t do it without them and the comfort these services provide is so important.
According to Debbie Tatum, director of development for the Franciscan Health Foundation, Horizon Bank has committed $5,000 in 2021 and $2,500 in 2022 to Center of Hope.
“Horizon Bank has a strong presence in Michigan City,” Tatum said. “This two-year donation demonstrates their commitment to the community and we are truly grateful for their support.”
