LAWRENCE, Kan. (WBW) – A chief medical officer from the Kansas City area now leads the Lawrence hospital system.

LMH Health On Friday, January 13, Dr. Kirk Sloan announced the appointment of the organization’s new Chief Medical Officer. He will assume the role on March 6.

LMH announced that Sloan was leaving St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Kansas City As chief medical officer and chief hospitalist. The plan is for him to work half the time as a CMO and spend the other half in a clinical capacity in the hospitalist program. During his first six months on board, he said he will work with Hal Taylor, MD, and Rebecca Smith, DO, to see how he can best integrate with the hospitalist team.

“Throughout the recruitment and interview process, it was clear that Dr. Sloan had the right focus, experience and enthusiasm for this role,” said Russ Johnson, CEO and President of LMH Health. “He is an excellent physician leader and a perfect fit for LMH Health. We had nine physicians involved with our CMO selection and all supported his candidacy for the role. This bodes well for the role he plays in working effectively with our medical staff.

Dr. Sloan said he looks forward to joining the team and continuing to provide patient-first care in collaboration with the medical staff.

“I am excited to work with Mr. Johnson, the LMH Health senior management team and the physicians. “I look forward to joining the medical staff as a hospitalist and providing clinical and operational support to the team,” he said. “LMH Health has an excellent reputation for quality and patient-centered care, and it is my goal to continue this exceptional clinical care.”

LMH Sloan, a US Army veteran, graduated from Wichita State University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine.
