ESCANABA – North Care Network is partnering with the Delta County Office of Veterans Services and the Delta County Veterans Council to offer free mental health first aid classes to veterans, family members, veteran caregivers and community members. Below are some important reasons why you or someone you know should take this class. Across the country, we are losing more veterans to mental illness. This course can help you get the time you need to reach emergency responders or seek professional treatment.
– People enrolled in local mental health first aid courses learn a five-step action plan to help loved ones, co-workers, neighbors and others cope with mental health or substance abuse problems.
– You will get a certificate in mental health first aid for 3 years. Similar to traditional CPR/First Aid courses.
– Also similar to traditional first aid and CPR, mental health first aid is provided to a person with a mental health problem or problem until they receive professional treatment or until the crisis is resolved.
Mental Health First Aid is an evidence-based public education and prevention tool – improving the public’s knowledge of mental health and substance abuse and providing care for people with mental health or substance abuse problems.
The class will be held on Wednesday, October 12th at the Delta County Veterans Service Center (Delta County Service Center – 2840A College Ave. Escanaba) from 8am to 5pm.The class is free and pizza/water/soda will be provided for lunch.
