two Nigerian startups have qualified for the finals of the Supernova Challenge pitch competition at the ongoing Gulf Information Technology Exhibition in Dubai 2022.

The spokesperson of the National Information Technology Development Agency, Ms. Hadiza Umer, made a statement on Thursday.

The two Nigerian starters who emerged as finalists were among the nine who made it to the semi-finals in the first place.

The statement read in part: “Nigerian start-ups vying for the gold spot in the Supernova Challenge pitch competition are FLOEWS and ShapShap.

Responding to this, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami expressed his belief that Nigerian startups and innovators will win the grand prize.

The two Nigerian startups, along with Kenya’s Melanin Capital, are the African finalists in the ‘Mobile and Smart City Innovator’ category.

According to the statement, FLoeWS strives to address climate change and the persistent problem of natural hazards such as floods through a disaster risk management system.

ShapShap provides the best online ordering and same-day delivery service for food, groceries, medicine and packages in Nigeria using a mobile application.

Earlier, the Director General of NTDA, Kashifu Inua urged Amazon Web Services to come to Nigeria and tap into the country’s technological capabilities.
