OMAHA, Neb. (WOT) – The first Midwest Chingona Festival in Stinson Park took place Saturday to support small businesses and celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.
Chingona means strong woman. And there were over 70 strong and capable women promoting their small businesses in white tents on Saturday.
They sold unique clothes, jewelry, handbags, jewelry and more. And there were also Latin-themed food trucks.
It is installed entirely by a group of women volunteers. They worked together to expose other small businesses in the Omaha community.
“This will help bring more awareness to my business in the community,” said host Julia Carrillo. Because I was not well known around here. Most of my fans are from Texas and Cali. But now with this event, I am getting more recognition here. That will help me because I can do more events later as I get more known here.
Carrillo sells small, handmade items and jewelry online and at events. She has been in Omaha since she was 17 years old and is now 36 years old. She calls Omaha home and hopes that this newfound community of female entrepreneurs will continue to support each other.
And there’s still time to get to the event, with vendors and food trucks leaving Aksarben Village until 9 a.m. Saturday.
