We all know what’s going on in Ukraine this year, absolute heartbreak and devastation of war. But this week in Paris, Ukrainian brand Litkovska showed the fashion world that in the midst of war, the spirit of the country and its creations still work hard to produce and inspire.

In the heart of the French capital, at the Carousel de Castiglione, in the Jardin des Tuileries, the creative director of the brand, Liliya Litkovskaya, announced.VesniakaHe said. The theme is a nod to traditional Ukrainian spring greeting songs.

Litkovskaya told Euronews culture: “I am completely inspired by my people, Ukrainians as a nation.” The way yesterday’s businessmen and women, lawyers, factory workers, nannies, beauticians and the like stood up to defend themselves when all the wars started made me realize that, to be honest, Ukraine is no longer a child. A young woman with ambitions.

“She respects herself and her boundaries with history and deep roots, hope and faith. This woman is fearlessly entering a new phase of her life, carrying her beauty inside and out, showing that she has grown in character and passion. It holds,” added Litkovskaya.

Ordinary people, extraordinary times

There is something very hopeful about the sartorial story of this collection. With the fear that plagues Ukraine, he is looking forward to tomorrow as much as ever. Litkovskaya clearly said that in the spring comes a new beginning and a new dawn, so is Ukraine, and so is the world in this difficult time.

On a large carousel, a quartet of women dressed in traditional Ukrainian costumes began to sing Vesnianka. “Our ancestors sang these songs celebrating the year of the sun, preparing for work in the field, asking for the support of higher forces in their beginnings,” Litkovskaya shared.

The collection’s silhouettes feature modern yet form-fitting silhouettes, as at its core, the refined artistically inspired chic brand references traditional Ukrainian clothing at the intersection between modern tailoring and everyday comfort.

Several pieces are decorated with the heart-wrenching poem “Prayer of a Ukrainian Patriot” written in his blood by a political dissident in the 1930s.

Now this is the Azov prayer of the brave Ukrainian heroes who were suspended in the Azovstal plant and continued to fight at the peak of human abilities. Now, every word of the 90-year prayer rings in our hearts with pride and pain at the same time and remains relevant for our time.

But the collection is also about the future. I feel that we are entering a new stage of life, we are ready for a new beginning, the past does not weigh us down, but gives us strength,” says Litkovskaya.

A loose fitting denim jumpsuit offers a stylish edge and can be paired with heels. Layers are displayed in multiple sections. White linen pants are layered with two tops and a matching jacket. And the fabrics are light, airy and clean. Litkovskaya and her team chose natural organic fabrics in a neutral color palette, from pure raw linen to tight and bold black pieces, reflecting the diversity of choices young people bring.

“You’ll also find a lot of very precise elements in a modern interpretation, weaving with a loose edge that incorporates our traditions and gives us wigs to reach new heights,” she shares.

“The collection is simple and clean, so the fabric matches the main message. We chose natural organic fabrics in a neutral color palette, from pure raw linen to tight and bold black pieces, which reflect the diversity of choices that young people bring. You will find many very authentic things in a modern interpretation. , the weaving ends with a loose edge that encapsulates our experiences and gives us wings to reach new heights,” she says.

“This collection is a pure reflection of how I feel about Ukraine right now. It explores the beauty of life and its stages, celebrates rebirth, and praises the fearless step toward a new dawn, a new spring, a new world,” she says.

As the models walked out onto the runway, they each stood on the side of the carousel. As the last model stood, the carousel began to rotate for guests to see the entire collection. Litkovskaya finished with a Ukrainian flag and, with tears streaming down her face, raised her blue and yellow flag as she circled the carousel and shouted “thank you” to the guests.

An emotional collection for Lilia Litkovskaya at a sensitive time for Ukraine.
