Lubbock, Texas – Texas Tech football will face Mountain West Conference champions New Mexico on Thursday at the John Walker Football Complex. The opening is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

Thursday will be Marvel Trivia Night as the Red Raiders (1-1-0) close out their three-game homestand. Tech begins a three-game road swing on Sunday.

Tech is looking to bounce back after a 1-0 loss to Arizona. The Red Raiders outshot Arizona 17-6 but were unable to find the back of the net. Tech is famous for not losing more than one game in a row. Since 2018, the Red Raiders have lost back-to-back games only twice (2021 – at Baylor and Texas, 2020 – at No. 9 WVU and at No. 6 TCU). Tech hasn’t won back-to-back games since 2017.

Scouting the Lobos

New Mexico (1-1-0) captured both the Mountain West regular season and tournament championships last season. The Lobos have split two matches this season — falling 1-0 to No. 6 Rutgers and falling to CSU-Bakersfield 4-2.

New Mexico is led by senior Jadin Edwards. Lelanie Baker scored as Edwards had a hat trick against CSU-Bakersfield.

Fast hunters

  • This season marks the 15th season the Red Raiders have played at the John Walker Soccer Complex. Tech is just two away from its 100th win over Walker.
  • Macy Blackburn. He was the Red Raiders’ lone preseason All-Big 12 selection. The defenseman led the team in assists with nine last season and collected Big 12 All-Freshman Team, Midwest All-Region Second Team and TopDrawerSoccer.com All-Freshman Second Team honors.
  • Blackburn picked up where she left off after leading the team with nine assists a year ago, scoring two in the opener against Troy.
  • Texas Tech was picked to finish fourth in the Preseason Big 12 Coaches Poll. The Red Raiders are drawn behind TCU, Texas and West Virginia.
  • The Red Raiders lost their team’s leading scorer from a year ago. Kirsten Davis. However, the team returns its second leading scorer (Ashley WilliamsHelp Leader (Blackburn) and Save Leader (Madison White).
  • White ranks Tech’s career goals-against record (0.95), fourth in career shutouts (18) and seventh in career saves (142).
  • The Red Raiders boast a young roster, adding 10 freshmen. Hot man Kylie Bahr They are the only freshmen to start both games so far this season.
