Doha, Qatar – Health professionals, policymakers, academics and government officials from around the world joined the 2022 World Health Innovation Summit (WISH) in Doha, Qatar, under the theme “Cure for the Future”.

Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, chairperson of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), opened the 10th International Summit on Tuesday, highlighting how big sporting events such as the FIFA World Cup 2022 can “inspire” people in Qatar. To “rebuild health care systems” around the world.

“Aspiration is always a collection of big ideas. Our guiding issues this year are many, with one big goal – finding solutions that will allow us all to live balanced, safe and healthy lives,” said Sheika Moza in her opening remarks.

“This is where sports and physical activity play an important role, because participation is not limited by age or class, but is open to all. Big sporting events are always a source of inspiration; inspiring the State of Qatar to host the FIFA World Cup, breathing new life into our country. Events can inspire us all here in Qatar and around the world to build our health care systems, to make them stronger and more accessible to all.

The opening was attended by Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, First Lady of Rwanda Jeanette Kagame and First Lady of Sierra Leone Dr. Fatima Mada Bayo as well as a delegation of ministers from 16 countries including Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. Ceremony.

The keynote speaker at the opening ceremony was Dr. Nubar Afyan, the founder of Moderiana, the company that developed the Covid-19 vaccine.

“All of us in this room work to improve human health against the background of what we call a health care system, but it’s actually a sick care system. We spend more time, energy and money treating people after they’re sick than trying to get them healthy,” said the US-based life sciences venture capital. Company Flagship Pioneer Founder and CEO Afyan said.

“The costs of waiting until disease is evident are high, many are denied access to care, and outcomes are worse. Early detection that can prevent disease or modify or manage pre-disease conditions can address health care disparities. We call this preventive health: cutting-edge biological sciences and It’s about applying digital technology to traditional public health goals,” he said.

Speaking about the development of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine, he emphasized the role of innovation and imagination in making giant leaps in biotechnology.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the WISH 2022 edition is the first major physical gathering since 2018. This is an initiative of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF).
