This year’s Fashion, Talent and Black History Show will be held at Brierley Hill Civic Center on Sunday and will focus on authentic fashion, showcasing styles worn in the season.

Samantha Prescott, vice-chair of the African Caribbean Center from Dudley, organized the event in memory of a Jamaican fashionista who was obsessed with clothes.

Mrs Prescott said: “It’s all in honor of my late grandmother, she came from the Caribbean, I inherited a lot of her clothes when she passed away, that’s where the idea came from.”

“I thought about how I could keep her memory alive, but also promote black culture.” The event sees hundreds of styles from over the years, showcasing the dynamic world of Caribbean fashion.

Mrs Prescott continued: “We’ve had a lot of interest in all areas of the Dudley community. You don’t have to be part of the black community to enjoy it, but it’s just an opportunity to celebrate and learn about Jamaican and black culture.

“My grandmother always talked about the importance of education. To be able to teach people in this way, this is a wonderful opportunity and a true testament to her memory.”

The fashion show offers audiences music and interactive events to get people dancing and actively learning about the show’s cultures.

“If we can get someone to dance, that’s a win in my book,” added the show’s host.

A showcase of fashion, talent and black history, the event will be held at Braeley Hill Civic Center in Bank Street, doors open at 5pm, tickets available at bhillcivic.co.uk.
