Parkersburg – Spero Health, a national leader in addiction recovery, has opened a new clinic in Parkersburg, the company said.

The clinic opened June 30 at 2 Ferguson Drive, the second location Spero Health has opened in West Virginia, joining more than 80 Spero Health locations throughout Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee, Indiana and Virginia and West Virginia.

“This second Sparrow Health clinic in West Virginia is the beginning of our work in the state as we continue our mission to save lives, create hope and restore relationships. Spero Health CEO Steve Priest said.

According to the CDC, from September 2020 to September 2021, West Virginia had 1,284 overdose deaths, a slight decrease from previous years.

Although the latest data is encouraging, we must not forget how urgent it is for our communities to get addiction treatment closer to home, so we continue to see a decline in these numbers. The priest said. Before covid-19, the country was in crisis. During the outbreak, friends and neighbors in our community struggled with recovery, and experienced things like job loss and social isolation that caused many people to turn to substances to ease the pain.

Synthetic opioids, including fentanyl, have become the most common drugs in drug overdose deaths in the United States, Priest said. He said the number of deaths will continue due to the proliferation of street drugs, which are cheaper and 50 times more deadly than heroin.

“It is a very dangerous substance and is often mixed with other drugs and taken by users unknowingly.” The priest said. “We are also seeing a resurgence of methamphetamine use, further complicating the drug epidemic, but there is hope.”

Spero Health offers a community-based treatment approach using an innovative and evidence-based integrated care model that combines both physical and behavioral health care services under one roof.

“Often people don’t know where to turn or are afraid of judgment, and we want everyone to know that recovery is possible. According to David Hayden, senior vice president of clinical services at Spero Health. “Spero Health’s goal is to engage patients in their journey and personalize the program to meet their unique needs so they can achieve stability, interventions to support ongoing recovery efforts.”

He said a weekly doctor or nurse practitioner, counseling and recovery support services help patients address issues such as housing, food insecurity and employment to help connect them to the community.

Spero Health is an integrated health care services organization focused on local and affordable outpatient care for individuals suffering from substance use disorders. The company is based in Nashville, Tenn. and is privately held by Heritage Group, Health Velocity Capital, South Central and Frist Cressey Ventures.

The company operates more than 80 outpatient clinics.

Immediate appointments are available and individuals seeking addiction treatment services are encouraged to call 866-755-4258 for more information.
