World Mental Health Day (WMHD), recognized annually in October 10It is an international day dedicated to raising awareness of mental health issues and mobilizing efforts to support mental health around the world. At The Kellogg Company, we recognize WMHD with a full lineup of programs throughout the month of October and throughout the year, regionally and internationally.
This work is very personal to me. I realized the importance of taking control of my mental health at the age of 21. I was mentally exhausted at the time – juggling work and college full-time, volunteering at a suicide hotline, and a 200-page thesis.
And then I lost my favorite person in the world to cancer – my grandfather. I passed out in the middle of one of my college night courses, lifted up on a stretcher surrounded by emergency personnel and police officers. I know I need to focus on my mental health.
I learned how to eat and exercise for my mental health. I found a dog that gave my life a whole new sense of purpose and joy. I learned that it’s okay to be supported by people who love me and to seek professional help when I need it. Slowly applying these concepts helped me grow emotionally. All of these concepts are part of my mental health routine that helps me to be a good wife, stepmom, dog mom, friend, and employee so many years later.

For me, universal well-being makes a big difference, and I am thrilled to be able to bring this commitment to my work at Kellogg. We offer a wide variety of educational programs and training in all our regions and the feedback is overwhelmingly positive. But we don’t stop here. Emotional well-being continues to be a focus for us in 2023 and beyond.
