MADRID, Sept 5 (Reuters) – New infections from monkeypox are on the decline in Spain, which has the second-highest number of cases worldwide this year, Health Minister Carolina Darias said on Monday.
“With all precautions, we are in a stable situation in terms of the disease and its spread,” she said after meeting with health officials from Spain’s regions.
Last week, the World Health Organization said that it is possible to eliminate the monkey disease in Europe, citing data that the spread of the disease, which the World Health Organization has declared as a global health emergency, is decreasing in a few countries. Read more
Spain has reported 6,645 confirmed cases – the highest in Europe and second only to the United States globally – and two people have died since reporting its first case in May. Read more
The country has received more than 17,000 Bavarian Nordic doses. (BAVA.CO) Imvanex is the only vaccine on the market to prevent monkeypox and recently approved a “dose-saving” vaccination technique that allows up to five people to benefit from a single vial. Read more
