CAPE CORAL, Florida – Hurricane Ian destroyed health care clinics and crippled hospitals in Southwest Florida.

Samaritan Health and Wellness on Cape Coral Parkway in Cape Coral serves more than 10,000 uninsured and underinsured patients. Dr. Soo Huk founded and ran the institute and found it destroyed by Ayen.

The roof at the top of the facility has been completely peeled off and is now lying in the parking lot behind the building.

Despite the loss, Dr. Hook shared her thoughts with all those who lost their homes and loved ones.

“You think about all the people who lost their homes… They don’t know if their families are alive. This is one thing,” said Dr. Hook.

As she walked through the building, her equipment, rooms and everything was destroyed by the water that entered the building.

Her clinic was preparing to celebrate eight years in operation.

“We started working here with two people … now we have 11 people and we started with 40 patients and now we have more than 10,000,” Hook said.

However, she no longer has the privilege of seeing those patients, but when she did, she had a vision.

“If the light shines in the darkness … the darkness will not overcome it, and that’s what we’re doing,” Hooke said inspired.

She and her staff are making plans to overcome the damage.

“What we want to do is put up some tents in our parking lot on Monday,” she said.

That plan is similar to what Lee Health is doing at Cape Coral Hospital. Dozens of people lined up outside to be identified in one of the tents set up in front of the emergency room.

“We are still moving patients out of our system, but remember that we still have patients coming in because all of our emergency rooms are open,” said Lee Health CEO Larry Antonucci. .

Millennial patients can call 844-225-5674 to connect with a physician who can provide them with phone or telehealth.

Dr. Sue Huck offers this reminder to her patients.

“We want our patients to know that we love them and we’re not going to give up. That’s just a hurdle,” Hook said.
