ROANOKE, Va. (WDJ) – The White Coat Ceremony is a tradition that most medical schools across the country participate in. But the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine has a special tradition for this special day.

“We wait until the end of the first medical school. Until they feel like I can do it, I’m done in the block, I know what medical school is and I think I can do it,” said Dr. Aubrey Knight, senior dean of student affairs at VTCSOM.

VTCSOM wants each class to understand and appreciate what is in front of them. And after taking the oath in front of their family and friends, the 49 students took off their coats and wrote their names in the class book like the previous 12 classes.

This is a celebration of not only getting their white coat, but also of completing their first medical school and successfully completing their first block, and this is a measure or recognition of that particular achievement. “

The Class of 2026 will be the 13th graduate in VTCSOM history. For more information on the records this class has already broken, head over to our previous story here.
