BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Western Carolina volleyball team dropped a 3-0 win over Virginia Tech in the conference finals on Friday evening as part of the Hockey Classic at Cassel Coliseum.

The Catamounts erased an early 6-4 deficit with a 5-1 run for a 9-7 advantage. Trailing 16-15, the Hokies went on a 4-1 run to hold off a late Catamount charge to take the lead and secure the win.
Tied at five in the third set, the Hokies took three of the next four points to close out the match, giving WCU its third win over the ACC this season.
WCU opens both its Southern Conference and regular-season home schedule next Friday, taking Samford to Ingles Court in the Ramsey Center at 6 p.m.
