From intimate gatherings to large runway shows, September is packed with beautiful events that highlight local artists, businesses, and venues.
Two fashion weeks are on the list this month. Fashion Week MN (FWMN) kicks off Sunday. A few days later on September 23rd, Black Fashion Week MN (BFWMN) begins.
Sarah Edwards, CEO and co-founder of FWMN, said the events are about more than just the wear.
“At the end of the day, it’s about people and relationships and stories,” she said. “And fashion is the last thread that brings us all together.”
Edwards added that the biennial fall session will include a strong academic component, panel events on sustainability, fashion technology and more.
During Black Fashion Week MN, look for events that highlight local movers and shakers of style, as well as other members of the creative community.
“For us this round, it’s about culture. When we say culture, we’re working with the community,” said Natalie Morrow, founder of BFWMN. “It’s really about supporting and highlighting black-owned businesses. We’re connecting and connecting with them and really spreading the love.”
Black Fashion Week MN events range from a minimal fashion show in a restaurant to a salon to the airport. The finale at the new Four Seasons Hotel showcases black-owned businesses and wedding dress inspiration for brides and grooms and their guests.
“We’re having a wedding cake that will be cut and have champagne and a DJ,” Morrow said. “So it’s going to be a fashion show/fake wedding.”
