RUTLAND, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont Tech has announced that 41 students have graduated from the GE Manufacturing Technician Training Program.

GE is a supplier of aircraft engines, systems and avionics, headquartered in Rutland, Vermont. Capstone projects where graduate students mastered and practiced instrumentation, electrical maintenance, and mechanical maintenance achieved more than $3M in plant efficiencies. Program instructors say the students will enter the workforce directly and can ease the pressure on Vermont’s aviation industry.

“It’s a good sign for the aviation industry. It is a good sign for production in Vermont. It’s a good sign for higher education in Vermont, because, you know, the old saying goes to college to get a good job. And we weren’t supplying enough graduates to our manufacturing sector in Vermont. And now we’ve got a great job going into college,” said Jeff Higgins, director of external programs at Vermont Tech.

Graduates of the GE Manufacturing Technician Apprentice Program earn 20 to 40 college credits, and many go on to Vermont Technical College for associate’s and bachelor’s degrees in their respective fields.
