Vogue is standing by its global fashion editor Gabriela Carefa-Johnson after Kanye West’s online attacks.
“Vogue stands by our biggest and longest-standing contributor, our international fashion editor, Gabriela Carefa-Johnson. She was personally attacked and abusive. It’s unacceptable,” the magazine wrote in an Instagram post on Tuesday.
“Now more than ever, voices like hers are needed and in a private meeting with you today she once again spoke her truth in a good way, like hers.
The 45-year-old rapper savagely poked fun at Carefa-Johnson’s style choices by disapproving of his widely-condemned “White Lives Matter” shirt.
West posted a photo of Karefa-Johnson on Instagram in which she was seen wearing brown boots, a knitted sweater, a yellow graphic T-shirt and a corduroy trench coat. The fashion journalist accessorized her look with a blue Balenciaga bag, oversized shades and a statement necklace.
“This is not a fashion man,” West captioned a photo on Instagram, which has since been deleted, saying, “You talk on Ye Ima speak on you ask Trevor Noah,” referring to his feud with the late-night host.
In another post, the hip-hop star captioned the editor’s outfit, “I KNOOOOOOW ANNA HAAAATES THESE BOOTS,” in reference to Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.
After West came out to Karefa-Johnson, supermodel Gigi Hadid defended the musician in a heated Instagram comment blasting her.
“I wish you had a percentage of her intelligence. You have no idea haha…if there’s a point to anyone – she’s the only one who can save you,” Hadid West, 27, wrote under the shared post.
West’s backlash came after Karefa-Johnson took to social media to share the words “White Lives Matter” shirts, which West debuted at the Yeezy fashion show in Paris on Monday.
Calling West’s design an “impossible feature,” she wrote on her Instagram story along with Yeezy’s fashion show video, “I’m shooting… gathering my thoughts…
“I guess I got what he was trying to do – he thought it was Duchampian. It wasn’t,” she wrote in another IG Story. “It didn’t go down and it was very offensive, violent and dangerous.”
West previously defended his “White Lives Matter” shirt on Instagram, saying, “Everybody knows Black Lives Matter was a scam. Now you’re welcome.”
