TOPEKA, Kan. (WBW) – The Small Business Development Center at Washburn University is welcoming a new, but familiar, face.

Nadia Arbelo, a consultant with the Kansas Small Business Development Center’s Manhattan Outdoor Center, said he was promoted to assistant director of the organization at Washburn University.

Arbelo of Kansas SBCC will join Carl Klein in the Capital City office to drive entrepreneurial impact for Topeka and the 12-county region the couple serves.

“Since being hired in 2022, Nadia has made an impact and expanded entrepreneurship in the Manhattan region by partnering and building bridges with the community, entrepreneurs and small businesses we serve,” said Klein, regional director of the WU SBDC. “We look forward to Nadia’s continued commitment to the state, the region and the clients we have served.”

As the Northeast Regional Assistant Director and KSSBDC Business Advisor, the organization indicated that Arbelo is excited about the collaboration and cooperation the opportunity will bring. She has served in a similar role with the Western North Carolina SBTDC and as an independent consultant in the public and private sectors.

According to the KSSBDC, Abello has worked in industries ranging from retail to manufacturing and provided educational and administrative services to public and private schools from Kansas City to Abu Dhabi. She is the only Ph.D. A program focused on the study of gender equality and female identity in public spaces in philosophy and visual culture theory.

As SBDC’s assistant director, Arbelo said the organization believes “supporting lifelong learning through doing fosters the creative and entrepreneurial spirit in every individual.”

KSSBDC pointed out that Arbelo is tasked with encouraging and supporting small businesses, putting ideas into action, creating relationships that lead to success and uplifting underserved urban and rural communities.
