It’s been a while since the Wilcox Cowboys have been able to claim the Seni-Lohman Trophy, to say the least.
Friday night, that all changed.
Wilcox hasn’t beaten Benson since 2011. The Cowboys are on a 10-game losing streak. A lot of frustration from previous teams was released in the Cowboys’ 56-25 win over the Bobcats in Benson on Friday night.
Cowboy’s offensive attack was mostly on the ground. Seniors Aiden Fuentes And Christian Panda They were dominant running the ball, basically all of the Cowboys’ scores.
Pando started things off on the opening kickoff and set the tone early, running down the field and scoring from six yards out to make it 7-0.

Wilcox head coach Erik Hjalmarsson admitted he was surprised to see Benson’s new offense, a more aggressive offense compared to years past.
“Yeah, we made some adjustments… I thought they’d run the ball a little more, but we’re ready,” he said.
With 8:55 left in the second quarter, it looked like this game was all back-and-forth, but this was as close as it would get.
Pando and Fuentes took turns scoring touchdowns for big runs that quickly made it 26-12. And with 35 seconds left in the game, Fuentes scored on another long run from the back to make it 33-12.
A great running game begins with the boys. Hjalmarsson praised the forward line after their goal performance.
“Our offensive line, they’re small, but we get after it,” Hjalmarsson said. “We’re doing well, our coaching staff, everything is going well right now.”
Benson received the second half kickoff and after a three-and-out, Pando returned a short punt from around the 50-yard line to make it 39-12.
Benson responded with a long touchdown drive that resulted. Colton Tyra Despite rushing to make it 39-19 midway through the third quarter, Fuentes took the Cowboys’ first play after the penalty into the end zone for another 60-plus yard run, putting the game away at 46-19.
Benson will look to bounce back next week when they travel to Bisbee (1-1).
Wilcox will try to keep the momentum going as it moves to 3-0 against Sequoia Pathway, which is 2-0 after Friday night’s 32-14 home win over Tombstone.
Hjalmarson acknowledges the level of opposition on the horizon.
