The iconic house of Youngmi Woo, WOOYOUNGMI, practices tradition with a South Korean sensibility for Fall/Winter 2023. Contrasts were fitted, effortless and very detailed.
The FW23 was a mix of macro and micro, a concept best seen in the eighth look. An oversized, down-filled padded jacket was worn over a wrinkled cardigan and long white shirt, jogging pants and tight running sneakers that carried a large silver orb on them. And it was these comparable stories that won the show.
Likewise, a dusty blue double-breasted car coat nips, tanks and pleats collide with a silver orb sweater, a varsity jacket with an erupting volcano embroidery is worn with a micro-skirt of a technical nature and is paired with an entry into WOOYOUNGMI. Fine-tuning and fine-tuning.
If the color palette wasn’t cream and grey, the collection would have been seen as big, bold and loud. But that was no mistake, WOOYOUNGMI did what greats like Raf Simons, Jil Sander, Lemaire, Dries Van Noten, The Help and more do: create a capsule wardrobe that wears mix and match essentials.
Once the casual wear was out of the way, the brand played with texture and fun. Dull blue tin glitter jumpers and jackets intarsia knit erupting volcano coats, workwear inspired jackets in burnt orange hues, unique chrome jewelery dangling from one ear and cropped and ride trousers with a touch of cargo to bring them full circle.
