ATLANTA, Ga. (CBS46) — In the early hours of September 11th, Cain Chastain was hit by a car outside Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

It happened when Cain and his father, Jonathan, from Georgia Tech, Clemson left Chick-fil-A for the first time on Labor Day.

Surveillance video from the Georgia World Congress Center captured the moment a black car continued to cut off Kay on Northside Drive. Atlanta police say the driver was 38-year-old Lavar C. Clinton.

“I’m glad they found it and now it’s closed,” Jonathan said.

The incident left Kay with a broken leg and broken ankle. It also left his father with heavy hospital bills. But Jonathan said they have received support from all over the state.

“There were people from the Georgia fan base, the Georgia Tech fan base, Clemson fans and all around town, and they all expressed their support,” Jonathan said.

Georgia Tech gave the Chastain family group tickets to last week’s home game against Western Carolina, where they met Tech alumnus and Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens.

“He talked to us about it and everything we were going through. He’s a really nice guy,” Jonathan said.

The college gave Cain and his dad a Ramblin’ Rec car, took them down the field before the game with a coin toss, and gave Cain a jersey along with the other Yellow Jackets.

“We appreciate everything the school has done and all the supporters. And fans of other fans who helped out with help and stuff. Thank you very much. It will benefit us a lot in the long run with all the insurance and stuff and medical expenses,” Jonathan said.

After an extensive investigation, Atlanta police said they tracked down Kaine and Clinton while driving the hit-and-run car. He was charged with hit and run.
