Google has announced the launch date for its Pixel-focused “Made by Google” event, joining Microsoft and Apple with fall product releases.
The live event will take place on October 6 at 10:00 AM ET, where Google is expected to announce its latest Pixel devices. The lineup is likely the Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro and Google Pixel Watch.
The company plans to announce additions to the Nest smart home product line. The event will be held in NYC’s Williamsburg neighborhood as well as an online event on Google’s website.
Google will show Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro and Google Pixel Watch at Google I/O in May 2022. The Pixel 7 phones run Android 13 and feature the next-generation Google Tensor chip.
Tensor is the company’s custom chip that powers photos, videos, speech recognition and security computing features.
The Google Pixel Watch is the company’s first watch that it designed and built itself. Google acquired fitness company Fitbit in 2021 and users can expect to see health and wellness features in the operating system.
A rumor suggests that the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will be priced the same as the 2021 Pixel 6 lineup. The Pixel 7 is priced at $599, while the Pixel 7 Pro starts at $899.
Microsoft and Apple in October
Microsoft announced the event on October 12 from 10:00 p.m. Rumors point to Surface Pro 9 and Surface Laptop 5 announcements.
Both devices are expected to include 12th-generation Intel chips, an upgrade from the 11th-generation chips in the Surface Pro 9 and the 2021 Surface Laptop 4. These chips could be Intel Core i5-1235U and Core i7-1255U.
Apple is expected to have an October event where the macOS Ventura, iPadOS 16 and new hardware will be released. The iPad and iPad Pro lines are expected to see a refresh, as are some of the Mac lines.
A 14- or 16-inch MacBook Pro with an M2 chip could see an announcement, and the M1 could also see an update, possibly two years after the Mac Mini’s launch.
