BOISE, Idaho (KIFI) – Serve Idaho, the Governor’s Commission on Service and Volunteerism, is accepting grant applications for public health AmeriCorps programs.

Earlier this year, Public Health AmeriCorps, a $400 million plan to save America, was launched in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as a way to recruit, train and develop a new generation of public health leaders.

The 2023 grant competition will focus on programs that address community health needs, including health inequities exacerbated by the ongoing pandemic. The competition is open to non-profit, faith-based, tribal and community-based organizations. Higher education institutions; State, local and regional government bodies; and local public health departments. Organizations that have not yet received AmeriCorps funding are encouraged to apply.

“Communities across the country are recovering and rebuilding from the public health crisis of COVID-19,” said AmeriCorps CEO Michael D. “AmeriCorps is recruiting organizations and Americans to rebuild and improve our struggling public health systems. We welcome any organization with innovative solutions to apply for Public Health AmeriCorps funding.

Suggestion to apply Vol Due by 4pm on Friday 7th October. Applicants must participate in two mandatory training and technical support calls:

  • Thursday, October 6 at 11 a.m. Mountain Time to review full grant requirements
  • Idaho to review specific requirements on Thursday, October 13 at 10 am Mountain Time.

The application deadline is Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at 4pm Mountain Time. Successful applicants will be notified in April 2023. Details about the support criteria and technical support opportunities are available at https://serve.idaho.gov/grantsfunding/

Public Health AmeriCorps awarded more than $60 million to 82 Public Health AmeriCorps programs in April 2022. This includes more than $1.6 million for Idaho State University’s Game State Public Health AmeriCorp program. Those programs are currently recruiting about 3,000 AmeriCorps members.
